APPEARANCE

Doug is about 4'5" with blond hair that falls just short of his long, downward-tilted ears. His skin tone would be that of a typical Caucasian human except for the green mottling throughout it that completely takes over on his extremities - his fingers, toes, joints, nose, and ear tips. His feet are generally bare unless it's too cold for that, on account of awkward half-goblin toes and the expense of customized shoes. His toenails are sharpened and black but his fingernails are only the latter. He doesn't blink as often as most people.

SKILLS

  • no real combat skills to speak of outside of basic hand-to-hand combat and he tends to avoid that if possible

  • ABILITIES

  • Omniligualism. While originally this manifested simply as understanding every spoken and written language, including those used by computers, the true potential of his powers wasn't reached until after he was raised from the dead (in canon). He can now read and decipher anything that can in any way be considered a language - any encryption imaginable, body language, architecture, magic, etc.

  • PERSONALITY

    Positive
    SELF-SACRIFICING - Doug often puts others before himself. This was especially common prior to his second death as he saw himself as the least important member of the team. He may fear death but he also loves his friends.

    FRIENDLY - Despite some of the aspects of his personality mentioned below, Doug is typically friendly to everyone. He can get moody sure, but first and foremost he's courteous and polite to those who are friendly to him.

    EASY-GOING - He isn't forceful unless he finds it absolutely necessary. This doesn't mean he's a doormat, but it means one doesn't typically have to argue with him to get him to go along with things. He has the personality of a follower rather than a leader.

    Negative
    DISTANCING - Because Doug has nearly died twice (and actually died once), he doesn't always feel like his life has real permanence. He socializes with others but avoids getting particularly close to anyone for this reason.

    KINDA SPACEY - Not really positive or negative, but the way Doug's powers make him view the world leave him a little disconnected at times. There's always so much for him to take in at once. This can make interacting with him somewhat awkward.

    OVERLY LOGICAL - Can sometimes be a little cold-hearted when it comes to getting things done just because of how easy it is for him to determine the most logical path. (He will, however, put the lives of his friends before others and can be convinced to use other options because he typically isn't the one leading.)

    TRAUMATIZED - This is easily hidden but being mind controlled in the past and forced to fight his own friends has left him unwilling to do much physical combat now. He doesn't want to be reminded of how easily he made use of their weaknesses. He could be more useful in some situations than he is if this wasn't the case.

    KEY EVENTS IN GAME HISTORY

    - Doug is the product of a taller-than-average goblin and a very slight human woman developing a close relationship as part of a travelling theater group. When it became obvious that his mother was pregnant, she and her father settled down in the markets of Krimnos. As a child, Doug had an adventurous nature despite his lack of physical strength as well as a desire to learn. He felt too confined on the cliffs.

    - When he was old enough, he joined a group of explorers visiting from Thalassa and he would later make the other city his home. One of the members of this party was able to connect with him strongly on a mental level, allowing him to participate in combat in ways he wasn't able to otherwise - but only when this other party member was around.

    - They once faced an enemy that was particularly talented with mind control. He made the whole group of them believe they were dead, then used their bodies to attack other adventurers. These other adventurers managed to defeat the villain and free them from his control, but they were all very traumatized from the experience.

    - He continued to remain with the group, as his translating skills were useful in treasure hunting. While exploring a cave they were warned against going into, Doug shoved one of his friends out of the way of a trap and took the damage himself. It nearly killed him, and though they got him out of the cave alive he was in a coma for over a year afterward.

    - When he finally woke from his coma, something about the damage he'd taken (potentially magic related) knocked his natural language skills into overdrive. This caused interaction with others to be awkward at first, and he attacked his own friends in his confusion. Luckily he didn't kill anyone.

    - The group of them were already involved in the war so he couldn't help but involve himself as well. He took up the role of a runner and a scout, but was targeted and killed for his efforts.
