🜙 Player Information 🜙 Character Information
⤛ Name: Douglas Ramsey
⤛ Appearance: Canon appearance. AU racial details below.
⤛ Canon: Marvel Comics (Earth 616 core universe)
⤛ Age: 18
⤛ Race: Half-human/goblin
⤛ Racial trait: Silver tongue.
⤛ Race details: Doug is shorter than your average human, but taller than a typical goblin at 4'5". His ears are long and tilted downward. His skin is somewhat mottled, with the majority being his canon skin tone but with green taking over on his extremities - his fingers, toes, elbows, knees, ears, and nose.
⤛ Choice: Yearning
⤛ Abilities: Omniligualism. While originally this manifested simply as understanding every spoken and written language, including those used by computers, the true potential of his powers wasn't reached until after he was raised from the dead (in canon). He can now read and decipher anything that can in any way be considered a language - any encryption imaginable, body language, architecture, magic, etc. Some in-canon examples are as follows:
- He can find the true meaning behind others' spoken words.
- He can read an attack before it happens as long as he can see the one attacking and their movements have thought behind them.
- He can quickly learn how to play new instruments.
- He can see the outside of a building and get a good idea of what's behind its walls.
- He can pick up magic usable by a non-magic individual if given the means.
- He can discern the recipe for an item of food just by eating it.
- His skills can easily translate to thievery, and he's stolen Daredevil's cell phone right off his belt without him noticing.
- On multiple occasions he's communicated with machinery without touching it, including telling bombs to deactivate themselves.
- He does particularly well in mindscapes, once avoiding having his mind destroyed by rewriting his own code. He's also "told" a technovirus within him to back down. He can go into his own mind with the help of someone who can mentally connect with him.
There are plenty of other things not shown in canon that should also follow these rules. Language is found in all forms of art and combat.
What he can't do is read people's minds directly. Those who's mental faculties are hampered in one way or another or those who plan little before they act are much harder to read. There are certain aspects of his powers that he's mostly avoided using ever since he was made to attack his own teammates. It left him a little traumatized and violence isn't really his thing anyway. He doesn't typically read people too heavily if he doesn't have to, and he avoids engaging in physical violence. The canon is also particularly bad about being consistent with his abilities - one of the problems with continuous changes in writers.
It's not always something he can control completely - for example, he developed a literal addiction to the internet due to his powers kicking in and trying to make sense of the whole thing (an impossibility). He will also generally be one of the first to recognize when reality has been shifted.
In Usir his powers would manifest as fortune magic. There are no spells to be cast, it's simply how he is. I'm aware that such abilities leave him at the risk of infomodding, and I will be sure to talk to other players before having him reveal anything they might not approve of and limitations will be put on him during plots if necessary.
⤛ Skills: While physically fit, Doug has no real combat skills to speak of outside of basic hand-to-hand combat and he tends to avoid that if possible. He has no weapon training.
As there are no computers in Usir and nothing to really compare those skills to that doesn't also exist in his canon those won't be an issue here. He's not a mechanic but his skills would let him figure out how something works easily if he needed to. He'll be book-smart on account of a love for reading but not necessarily street-wise.
⤛ Personality:
Positive
SELF-SACRIFICING - Doug often puts others before himself. This was especially common prior to his second death as he saw himself as the least important member of the team. He may fear death but he also loves his friends.
FRIENDLY - Despite some of the aspects of his personality mentioned below, Doug is typically friendly to everyone. He can get moody sure, but first and foremost he's courteous and polite to those who are friendly to him.
EASY-GOING - He isn't forceful unless he finds it absolutely necessary. This doesn't mean he's a doormat, but it means one doesn't typically have to argue with him to get him to go along with things. He has the personality of a follower rather than a leader.
Negative
DISTANCING - Because Doug has almost died twice (and actually died once), he doesn't always feel like his life has real permanence. He socializes with others but avoids getting particularly close to anyone for this reason.
KINDA SPACEY - Not really positive or negative, but the way Doug's powers make him view the world leave him a little disconnected at times. There's always so much for him to take in at once. This can make interacting with him somewhat awkward.
OVERLY LOGICAL - Can sometimes be a little cold-hearted when it comes to getting things done just because of how easy it is for him to determine the most logical path. (He will, however, put the lives of his friends before others and can be convinced to use other options because he typically isn't the one leading.)
TRAUMATIZED - This is easily hidden but being mind controlled in the past and forced to fight his own friends has left him unwilling to do much physical combat now. He doesn't want to be reminded of how easily he made use of their weaknesses. He could be more useful in some situations than he is if this wasn't the case.
⤛ Canon History: Here on his journal. (I'm taking him from a point not long after death #2 before they change up his personality again.)
⤛ Key History Events:
- Doug is the product of a taller-than-average goblin and a very slight human woman developing a close relationship as part of a travelling theater group. When it became obvious that his mother was pregnant, she and her father settled down in the markets of Krimnos. As a child, Doug had an adventurous nature despite his lack of physical strength as well as a desire to learn. He felt too confined on the cliffs.
- When he was old enough, he joined a group of explorers visiting from Thalassa and he would later make the other city his home. One of the members of this party was able to connect with him strongly on a mental level, allowing him to participate in combat in ways he wasn't able to otherwise - but only when this other party member was around.
- They once faced an enemy that was particularly talented with mind control. He made the whole group of them believe they were dead, then used their bodies to attack other adventurers. These other adventurers managed to defeat the villain and free them from his control, but they were all very traumatized from the experience.
- He continued to remain with the group, as his translating skills were useful in treasure hunting. While exploring a cave they were warned against going into, Doug shoved one of his friends out of the way of a trap and took the damage himself. It nearly killed him, and though they got him out of the cave alive he was in a coma for over a year afterward.
- When he finally woke from his coma, something about the damage he'd taken (potentially magic related) knocked his natural language skills into overdrive. This caused interaction with others to be awkward at first, and he attacked his own friends in his confusion. Luckily he didn't kill anyone.
- The group of them were already involved in the war so he couldn't help but involve himself as well. He took up the role of a runner and a scout, but was targeted and killed for his efforts.
🜙 Animas Information
⤛ Name: Warlock
⤛ Species: Opossum
⤛ Gender: male
⤛ Appearance: Looks like your average opossum, though the fur on its torso is a darker gray color.
⤛ Approximate size: Medium sized male opossum - about 6 lbs.

⤛ Sample 1: (I forgot I had to do a sample with the animus in my threads so here's this.)
"Your language is so simple and yet sometimes I think you purposefully don't make sense." Doug sits with his knees pulled up to his chest, arms wrapped around them, as he stares at the creature waddling around hear his feet. It's like a rat. A giant, ugly rat that can make itself look and smell dead whenever it wants. Yet he still can't help but find it adorable. Maybe it's the connection they share. He reads it as friendly and endearing so he can't help but return those feelings in kind.
But of course that endearment doesn't easily rub off on your typical establishment owner, so when he walks in with what looks like a giant rat on his shoulder it takes a little convincing before they'll let both of them stay. Rodents are filthy, after all, and bad for business. Warlock, however, is no more filthy than he is. Though to be fair, his own state of cleanliness varies from day to day. That's just a result of his current lifestyle.
There's a movement outside the room they're in and both man and animus jerk their heads up at the same time. When it seems to be nothing, they both drop their gazes in just as synchronized a manned.
"I could have complained, you know. Perhaps I wanted a dog." The opossum says nothing, of course, merely curls up next to Doug's feet as he sighs.
